14 Oct Student Leadership 2015-2016
The Student Leadership structure is now in place at Highbury Grove School. It is a bold structure that enables hundreds of students to lead, guide and support their peers in a number of ways.
As leaders of the school, Anthony and I have the role of chairing the Student Leadership Team, which consists of 14 students with roles such as Head of Equality, Head of Key Stage 4 and Head of the Student Council. The leaders are currently overseeing a number of projects in the school that are on our Student Development Plan, here are a few:
- The Heads of Equality and their Ambassadors are busy preparing resources and fundraising for the refugee crisis. They are also collecting evidence to enable Highbury Grove to become a Stonewall Silver Champion School.
- The Key Stage 3 and 4 Leaders have been taking assemblies and helping at open mornings and guiding targeted readers at tutor time.
- The Heads of House have been developing their House teams by leading assemblies, fundraising for their House charities and promoting and supporting House competitions.
- The School Council have been very busy meeting fortnightly, so far they have managed to get our lunch times changed in various ways to improve the service and they have also been applying to sit on Islington Council so that our voice can be heard throughout Islington.
There are lots of other initiatives taking place that we will keep you updated with. We have lots of work to do but so far it is fun, rewarding and seems to be making a difference, and the gold ties and lanyards are becoming much sought after.
