09 May Singin’ in the Rain
Singin’ in the Rain has been hailed ‘the best yet’. It was great fun to do and was lovely seeing the students enjoying performing on stage. We had a great mix of Year 7s through to Year 11. A ‘new generation of luvvies’.
Each performance was like a movie premiere as the audience were asked to dress up, walk along the red carpet and eat popcorn during the interval.
We created the silent movie theme with back projections, piano underscore and a brilliant set. We also had our own technical team of Year 8s operating the lighting desk and learning from Delilah, our resident Follow Spot Operator. The students had great fun sourcing their 1920s costumes, they all really looked the part!
The band, led by Mrs Aron, surpassed themselves. They created a glorious sound and performed with maturity.
The world was set; we introduced Alvaro as Don Lockwood and Martha as Kathy Selden, both had a real presence on stage. We also welcomed our Year 7s, who showed a great energy and focus. This was a real ensemble piece with the whole cast getting into the spirit of the era, learning basic tap steps, dance vocab of the period and delivering the songs wonderfully. Max’s rendition of ‘Beautiful Girl’ was sublime. We also hailed the return of Sofianne who blew the audience away as Lina Lamont, Elliot as Cosmo Brown showed what a trooper he is by bringing the young cast together and building a great onstage rapport with Alvaro. Thank you to all staff and students involved and to the very supportive audience.
