We have a varied programme of assignments from studying and exploring the work of notable playwrights and theatre companies, genres and theatrical histories. We believe also in the subject’s power to develop the whole child in regard to confidence, self-esteem and their social skills. To support and enhance the work of the department we have an exciting Drama Enrichment Programme of clubs, shows and Theatre School. The department also has a long-standing relationship with a number of professional bodies that support the high quality of learning in the department:
The Almeida Theatre (Gold Partnership)
The Barbican Theatre – Barbican Box
Islington Community Theatre – Ned Glasier (Director)
Old Vic New Voices (2014-15)
These partnerships provide practical workshops, residencies, performance opportunities in theatres, opportunities to see professional works to support and enhance their practical and written coursework.
Each year the Drama Department works in collaboration with Music to produce a whole School Musical;
2014 Guys and Dolls
Shakespeare Schools Festival
Each year KS3 students get the opportunity to perform in a local theatre a 3o minute production of a Shakespeare play with 3 other schools.
2013 Hamlet (years 8-9)
2014 Tempest (year 8 Theatre Specialist School)
2015 Twelve Night (Years 7-9)
