Congratulations to all Y11 students for their endeavours this year. Sixth Form recruitment has been very strong with nearly everyone aiming to take A levels joining Year 12 at Highbury Grove and many courses completely full. We are delighted to welcome so many students back.
We have also achieved some strong performances in various subject areas including over 40% of grades at A* or A in Biology, Turkish, Art and Design and Music; 90% of grades at B and above in Physics and Biology and strong improvement in numerous areas including English Literature, Media, Music, History, Geography, Double Science and with A/A* grades in French.
Our analysis for this particular cohort suggests that for them to perform in line with the average national trend from their starting point in Year 7, they should gain 39% 5A*-C with English and Maths. The headline figures of our results is now confirmed as 40%. We had obviously hoped to exceed the national trend figure by more, but as this was the first year when students did not have a Speaking and Listening assessment as part of the GCSE, the drop from 84% A*-C in English Language last year to 62% this year was as expected; in fact, 62% is a strong result for this cohort.
We’ll be celebrating Year 11 achievement at a formal event on November 13th.
Looking ahead, with a buoyant Sixth Form and high expectations of the next Year 11 cohort, we’re very confident that our results will now rise year on year.
